5 books every man should read

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

What do some of the worlds best thinkers, entrepreneurs, leaders and billionaires all have in common? They read. Veraciously. When a student at Nebraska State University asked Bill Gates and Warren Buffet "If you could have any super power in the world, what would it be?" Gates answered, “Being able to read super fast.” And Buffett echoed him, adding, “I’ve probably wasted 10 years reading slowly.” As we can see from these men and many others throughout history, readers are leaders. This is why I have put a small list together of 5 books that I believe every man should read.

The Multi Orgasmic Man – Douglas Arava and Mantak Chia

This is a book I wish someone would have given me when I was 15. To say it has the potential to be a real sexual game changer would be a huge understatement. There are numerous physical and psychology techniques which are described in detail, ultimately offering men a manual from which you can develop yourself to go from having cheeseburger sex (nice for the first couple of bites but then you think “that was a mistake”) to sailing through unchartered sexually energetic waters. However, please don’t think you can read this book and have instant good sex. Like most things worth having it takes work. Lots of work. The practice is often referred to as ‘Sexual Kung Fu’ and for good reason. To be a Bruce Lee takes training. But the good thing is the training you do won’t leave you beaten up, bruised and sore. Instead you can expect to build vitality, longevity and form powerful strong connections with yourself and your partner as you embark on your journey to become Multi-Orgasmic!

Men Are from Mars Woman Are From Venus – Dr. John Gray

I remember finishing this book and thinking ‘oh, that’s why woman do that’. John Gray is a true master when it comes to explaining the intricacies of the opposite sex. How their mind works. Why when you want to sit down quietly in front of the tv at the end of a stressful day, woman just want to talk about their day. He explains the reason why woman get pissed off at us when they are explaining all the problems in their life and we offer effective solutions to solve their quandaries. This book isn’t just about describing the differences between men and woman. It actually teaches us the language and thought pattern of both sexes, so you come away with a much better understanding of how to communicate. And when you can communicate effectively with the opposite sex, real magic happens.

The Way of The Peaceful Warrior – Dan Millman

Dan Millman recounts his early days at university when he stumbled upon an old man working the night shift at a local service station, who’s teachings quite literally changed his life. Dan talks about the many lessons and disciplines that he learned and practiced, to shape his mind, body and spirit into one of a Peaceful Warrior. I found this book to be truly inspirational and it may cause you to take a look at your life. To assess your direction, habits and mindset. The practices of meditation, healthy eating, discipline and exercise are all key elements to this path and although you may not practice them to the extent the Millman did, even creating some micro habits in some of these practices will pose incredible results in your life.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

I was reluctant to read this book because the title made it sound like a manual for how to manipulate people. But I relented when I found a lot of the personal development books I was reading and big-time success stories I was listening to had haled this book as a must read. Plus, I figured that a book written in the 1930’s which had sold more than 15 million copies and still going strong can’t be all bad. This book is packed with solid advice that has helped many people (especially me) ascend the ladder of success in both their business and personal lives. Despite being written over 80 years ago, Dale Carnegie’s principles are still relevant in today’s complex and competitive modern age.

Mans Search For Meaning – Viktor E Frankl

Viktor Frankl is the founder of logotherapy (a type of psychotherapy) which, in very simple terms states that no matter what is going on around us, you have the power to choose how you feel. And I could say that without a doubt this man would be a true expert on that. Written in 1946, Frankl talks about his experiences in some of the most notorious Nazi concentration camps. He describes the arduous work regimes, terrible conditions and the physical and mental torture that he experienced as he went from day to day, never knowing if it was to be his last. During his experiences he developed the attitude of finding meaning through his suffering. Frankl wrote:

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances.

This book is a powerful insight into courage and will to survive, no matter what life throws at you. It is on a list of the 10 most influential books in the united states, has sold over 10 million copies and has been translated into 24 languages.
